Computer and Mathematical Occupations drive artificial intelligence-related hiring activity
Computer and Mathematical Occupations, with a share of 22%, emerged as the top artificial intelligence-related job roles within the mining industry in Q3 2023, with new job postings rising by 22% quarter-on-quarter. Architecture and Engineering Occupations came in second with a share of 10% in Q3 2023, with new job postings dropping by 23% over the previous quarter.
The other prominent artificial intelligence roles include Management Occupations with a 9% share in Q3 2023, Business and Financial Operations Occupations with a 4% share of new job postings.
Top five companies in mining industry accounted for 64% of hiring activity
The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q3 2023 were ABB, Caterpillar, Deere & Co, Vale, and Rio Tinto. Together they accounted for a combined share of 64% of all artificial intelligence-related new jobs in the mining industry.
ABB posted 450 artificial intelligence-related new jobs in Q3 2023, Caterpillar 114 jobs, Deere & Co 100 jobs, Vale 94 jobs, and Rio Tinto 56 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.
Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 28.10% share of total new job postings, Q3 2023
The largest share of artificial intelligence-related new job postings in the mining industry in Q3 2023 was in the US with 28.10% followed by Canada (10.60%) and India (7.14%). The share represented by the US was three percentage points higher than the 24.76% share it accounted for in Q2 2023.
